Basic Mask Making Class — 3-Day In-Person Workshop
Join Fear Fuel Masks for a hands-on, three-day introduction to monster mask making. This beginner-friendly workshop takes students through the process of creating an original latex monster face mask, from the initial clay sculpture through molding, casting, finishing, and painting.
This workshop is IN PERSON ONLY. It is not an online or virtual class.
What You'll Learn
Day 1 — Design & Sculpting
Students will design and sculpt an original monster character in clay while learning basic facial anatomy, sculpting techniques, texture creation, wrinkles, wounds, scars, creature details, and how to prepare a finished sculpture for molding.
Day 2 — Mold Making & Latex Casting
Students will learn how a mold is created from their finished sculpture, including preparing the sculpture, basic mold-making techniques, preparing the completed mold, and casting with liquid latex. Certain steps involving potentially hazardous materials, tools, or processes may be demonstrated or performed by the instructor rather than students.
Day 3 — Finishing & Painting
Students will remove and finish their latex masks and learn basic trimming, cleanup, painting, detailing, and finishing techniques. Provided the casting and curing process is successfully completed, students will leave with their own handmade monster mask.
What Students Should Bring
Students should wear closed-toe shoes and clothing that can get dirty or stained. Long hair should be tied back when necessary. Students may also bring a water bottle, lunch/snacks as instructed, and approved drawings or reference images for their monster design. Please leave valuable clothing and personal items outside the work area.
Materials & Safety
This is a working art-shop environment. The workshop may involve clay, natural rubber latex, plaster/gypsum products, mold-making materials, paints, pigments, adhesives, mold releases, dust, and other art materials. Students may also be around or use appropriate hand tools such as sculpting tools, scissors, and trimming tools under instructor supervision.
Some materials may cause skin, eye, or respiratory irritation or allergic reactions. This workshop uses NATURAL RUBBER LATEX. Parents/guardians must disclose any known or suspected latex allergy, other material sensitivities, or relevant safety considerations before participation.
Students are required to follow all instructor safety directions, use protective equipment when instructed, use tools and materials only as authorized, keep food and drinks away from work areas, wash their hands after handling workshop materials, and immediately report spills, injuries, allergic reactions, dizziness, breathing difficulty, eye exposure, or other problems.
Running, horseplay, practical jokes, intentionally touching another student with tools or workshop materials, or other unsafe behavior will not be permitted. The instructor may restrict a student from an activity when necessary for safety. Serious or repeated unsafe or disruptive behavior may result in the parent/guardian being contacted to pick up the student.
Parent/Guardian Consent Required
For students under 18, a completed Parent/Guardian Information, Consent & Safety Form is required before participation.
After purchasing the workshop, the purchaser will receive information for completing the required form. It covers student and parent/guardian information, emergency contacts, allergies and material sensitivities, emergency medical authorization, authorized pickup arrangements, workshop safety rules, participation consent, and optional photo/video permission.
A student cannot participate until the required parent/guardian consent information has been completed and received.
Drop-Off & Pickup
Students should not be dropped off significantly before the scheduled class time unless arrangements have been made in advance. Parents/guardians will be asked to identify authorized pickup persons and indicate whether their teen is permitted to leave independently at the conclusion of the workshop.
Photography & Video
Parents/guardians will have the option to allow or decline identifiable photographs or video of their child for Fear Fuel Masks workshop and promotional purposes. Declining photo/video permission will not affect the student's ability to participate.
Cancellation & Refund Policy
Because space is limited, each registration reserves an individual student's place in the workshop.
Cancellations made within 24 hours of purchase are eligible for a full refund. After 24 hours, workshop registration is non-refundable.
Approved refunds will be issued through the original payment method. If a student is removed because of serious or repeated unsafe or disruptive behavior, any refund will be handled according to this refund policy.

By purchasing a workshop registration, the purchaser acknowledges that this is a hands-on, in-person art workshop involving mask sculpting, mold making, latex casting, finishing, and painting, and that completion of the required parent/guardian consent and safety information is a condition of participation for minors.
